ABOUT THE SCHOLARSHIP
Harold L. Silas Scholarship is named for Mr. Harold Silas who passed away in 2014. Mr. Silas was a Lakeland resident, a lifetime member of the NAACP, and the first Vice President of the Lakeland NAACP Branch. He was a graduate of Rochelle High School and Knoxville College where he majored in Sociology. He was also a member of Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity and a 2nd lieutenant in the U.S. Army. After leaving the military, Mr. Silas worked 19 years with the Lakeland Police Department in the Victims Assistance Program where he helped countless people overcome drug abuse.
